Move aside, Norman Rockwell

It’s been said that Santa is as much a construct of Coca-Cola and Norman Rockwell as it was Clement Clarke Moore, the author of ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas. But they ain’t got nothing on 6-year-old Jashpreet. When, in her position as a supply teacher, my wife was visiting his class the other day, Jshpreet finished his work early and had time to colour in his colouring book. This is his amazing work. Which reminds me: no matter what YOU think, your prospective donor is thinking, too. And even if your vision is one way you can’t expect everybody – especially new immigrant prospects – to think the same. As good as that is for our country, it’s not always good for the development director who has a clear idea of what she wants. We need to be open to new ideas if only because the creative minds with all these new ideas are going to be the ones that help us cure cancer, end violence and give peace a very real chance.May God bless you during this very special holiday season.
