Children are precious in February

From our unique, calendar-style Annual Report for Peel Children’s Aid Foundation comes this feature for February about ‘The Village':

Struggling with behavioural issues, Daniel had been suspended from school on numerous occasions and had problems getting along with the other youth in his group home. His Youth Worker approached Daniel with the idea of joining The Village, a group that supports black youth in care and gives them an opportunity to discuss their challenges and struggles. At first, Daniel resisted attending the gatherings, however, when he finally went, he found a supportive, inclusive group of mentors and peers. He found he related to many of the youth and soon found new self confidence in his identity. Now, Daniel is learning how to resolve issues without violence and is beginning to excel at school.  He is still attending The Village meetings and feels a true connection to the youth in the group.
