Children are precious in October

Sure we read the paper for the articles, but we’re not ashamed to admit we sneak a peek at the Saturday Comics (but only on weekends when we can let our hair down a little). Family Circus maps served as the inspiration for this illustration which adorns ‘October’ in the Calendar cum Annual Report wishart created for Peel Children’s Aid Foundation.

Here’s the story that accompanies the delightful drawing: Anthony had been in and out of foster care for most of his life. From a very young age, he was determined to become a successful adult, however, he could not rely on his family for the support and guidance most teenagers receive. Anthony began taking Peel Children’s Aid’s Skills for Success classes and found a safe place to discuss his hopes for the future. Anthony found the career planning and job preparedness workshops helpful in mapping out his future and helping him find a part-time job. Now, Anthony is confident when he leaves care he can be successful independently!
